Simple kids craft: make your own doll sized Unicorn Frappuccino

American Girl Z with Unicorn FrappucinoTo celebrate the release of the new Z Yang doll from American Girl who hails from Seattle, I’m sharing a quick craft that my daughter and I whipped up today {pun intended}. We’re super excited about Z and couldn’t wait to add to her Seattle accessories with a trademark Starbucks cup.

I’m sure you remember all the controversy 1c702072bd3f4463a4706989fdc0d027behind the new Unicorn Frappuccino, a special edition drink that Starbucks released for just a few days last month, right? Well, I’ve created my own Unicorn Frappuccino for dolls that has a whopping 0 grams of sugar!

All you need is a small Starbucks cup, some felting wool that you can find at craft stores, and a tiny bit of glue. I used a Starbucks cold cup ornament that we got last year for my Starbucks-loving kiddo to play with her dolls, which you can usually find in Starbucks stores from fall until January.

If you don’t happen to have one of these ornaments lying around, you can go to any Starbucks and ask for a sample size cup and then use one of the clear plastic prize balls that you can get in vending machines to make the lid. Just roll up some green paper for the straw and cut a hole in the “lid”, and you have a Starbucks Frappuccino cold cup! American Girl StarbucksWhen using the ornament, simply twist the lid off gently to break the glue seal. Then, you can use wool for felting to create the “drink”. If you don’t have the correct color for your beverage of choice, feel free to mix wool by brushing it together. Mixing the colors actually adds a fun depth to the finished product that makes it look like a blended drink, which is pretty cool.

We used light pink, blue, and red to create a purple and then placed the wool in the cup. For the blue streak in the Unicorn Frappuccino, we cut a jagged piece of teal felt and wrapped it around the edge of the cup so it was visible on the outside. We then used a small amount of cream colored wool for the whipped cream, wrapping it around the straw and tucking in the ends to keep it together. American Girl Unicorn Frap 2Once your “drink” is created, simply glue the lid on, and your doll is ready for her selfie. Here’s Z with her Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino, entirely sugar-free and yet pretty darn cute. American Girl Z with Starbucks 2Adorable, no? It’s the perfect drink for the hotter weather that should be on its way to Seattle any day now….Any day, seriously. American Girl Z with StarbucksWhat’s your favorite Starbucks drink? Would you make a mini one for your Z doll?
