Family Picture Up Close
It’s that time of year again! Photo Christmas cards are coming, and they aren’t going to plan themselves. I know you still think you have time, but it’s really time to think about it now.

Otherwise you know you’re going to wait until the last minute and search through the pictures you’ve snapped all year only to find that every single picture that includes the whole family has someone either 1) looking away, 2) crying, 3) making goofy faces, or 3) all of the above. So, then you’ll find the nearest photo studio and book a last minute appointment that ends in disaster.

Or, you can go the easy route and just schedule yourself a family portrait sitting at Portrait Innovations now, while you still have time.Three kids reading

Our Portrait Innovations photo shoot this past week got so many great shots that we honestly have too many to choose from. I’ll wait for that to sink in: three young kids, two camera-shy adults and we got too many pictures to choose from in one single 30 minute sitting. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get three young kids to look at the camera at the same time? If you happen to want all of them smiling, you're in for a very intense standoff, a whole lot of time wasted negotiating, and someone is bound to leave in tears. But, not at Portrait Innovations. Family by treeThis was our third time visiting the Portrait Innovations in Kent, WA at Kent Station studio, and it was just as awesome this time as it was in prior visits. I’ve never been in for the holidays before, so I was thrilled at the prospect of taking family pictures to hand out during the holidays as well as create some photo gifts and holiday greeting cards. The timing of our visit was perfect because the new holiday backdrops went up at the beginning of November, so we got to get the holiday pictures and still beat the holiday rush. Scheduling an appointment was easy via their online scheduling tool where you can see when the studio is open {many studios are closed Monday or Tuesday}. Pro tip: When photographing multiple kids or changing outfits, you will need extra time so choose a day when there aren’t lots of appointments scheduled. You can click on days you are considering and see how many slots are still available to tell you if the studio is busy or not. In general, weekends will be much busier than weekdays, but as it gets closer to the holidays you might find weekdays filling up, too. J on crate in snowWe chose the last sitting of the day on a Friday, which I felt bad about because I know that everyone would like to get home to their families, but Kendra and her team didn’t mind a bit. They got us right in and started getting backdrops ready while we got the kids settled. Everyone at the studio was amazing about showing them around and letting them ask all sort of questions about the backdrops and props that they could use and it was just minutes until we were posed and ready to go. Leanne and Tyler FinalWhen the photo shoot started, it was very clear to me that Kendra was a professional. I had originally been apprehensive about trying a new photographer at Kent Station and preferred to go with someone we’ve had a good experience with in the past, but Kendra was so great that she’s changed my mind. I’ve now come to the conclusion that Portrait Innovations only hires the best, and no matter who I get at the studio, I’ll be in good hands. This is because photographers at each Portrait Innovations studio have been trained in the newest posing and shooting techniques and are given special training on how to photograph newborns, young children, families, graduates, and large groups. Three kids white backgroundKendra took the time to get to know the kids names, she asked our preferences on backdrops and posing, and even though it was her last shoot of the day, she didn’t just snap pictures to be done. I was starting to get a bit worried that we weren’t going to be able to fit in a change of clothing and a different backdrop, but she kept the kids focused and didn’t cut the shoot short. While we quickly changed our clothing, Kendra moved to the next studio and got the backdrops and props ready for the next shots and she was ready in just minutes. Baby in holiday chairLike I said, we actually ended up with too many great shots to choose from. Luckily, they are pros when it comes to helping you narrow down your favorite shots quickly using a three picture system where decisions are much easier to make. Portrait Innovations picture selectionIt was mere minutes at the computer and we had the entire shoot sorted into favorites and outtakes. Once that was done, the fun stuff happened and we got to choose which pictures we wanted prints of and what holiday cards we wanted to design. Oldest by treeI loved that Kendra shared the current month’s specials as we went, making sure we got the best deal possible and the most amount of pictures. I went the easy route and decided on a portrait package that included my favorite photos based on Kendra’s suggestions. I ended up with enough pictures to hand out to family and friends as well as a ton to hang and frame and I even got a picture CD so I can do even more with the pictures. There are never any sitting fees and all portraits and cards are printed in studio within minutes. Boy by treeIf I do decide I need more prints, photo gifts, books, keepsakes, canvases, or photo cards, I can hop on over to Portraits.com and order more whenever I want. They have some really cute ornaments, mugs, and more that would make awesome grandparents gifts, and I plan on getting some after we go through our list of people to buy for.

I love their backdrops and props, and I adore that their photographers take all the time you need, even allowing for clothing changes and making kids feel comfortable before snapping pictures. Those things alone make it well worth the drive, but when you add in their deals, specials, and their customer service, it’s not even a competition with other photography studios.Trust me.
