Our new Easter tradition: HoneyBaked Ham

Easter dinner with Honeybaked Ham
I love Easter. I love all the spring colors, I love pulling out my mismatched “fancy” dishes, and I love having family and friends over to celebrate with tea and snacks and then a full dinner.

But, there’s one Easter tradition I just can’t get behind. You see, I just do not like ham. I do not like it, Sam I am. I do not like it here or there, I do not like it anywhere.

Knowing this, you wouldn’t think I would be excited to write about a company like HoneyBaked Ham, but you’d be wrong. I will admit that when I was presented with a menu, the first thing I searched for was ham alternatives. Once I saw they had turkey {both smoked and roasted}, as well as a ton of sides, entrees, and desserts, I was in.

With Easter fast approaching and lots of holiday parties on the horizon, I thought this would be a great time to check out a few dishes from Honeybaked Ham. I picked out a few dishes I wanted to try online, called the store to reserve the items, and then sent my husband to the HoneyBaked Ham Company store in Bellevue, WA with an empty cooler and some ice to pick up my Easter feast. The day of our Easter dinner, I simply had to start the oven preheating and pop in the sides at the correct times and temperatures and then get the ham and turkey ready to serve. Although I was mostly excited about the delicious smells coming from my oven, second to that was the fact that there were no baking dishes required.

Seriously ~ why spend all day in the kitchen when you could be spending more time with your loved ones?

In just 45 minutes we were all ready to start the meal. And, while we could have certainly dished up from the included baking trays, I thought it would be fun to dig in my china cabinet and come up with pieces that meant a lot to me. Easter dinner from Honeybaked Ham

It’s always fun to pair a tea set from my grandma with a fancy fluted serving dish that my family brought with them from Germany in the 50s. Add in some pewter pieces from my collection to go with some plates hubby and I picked out when we started dating in the 90s and then some new floral plates my daughter insisted we buy for our tea parties and I’m a very happy girl.

But, fill those beloved family pieces with a delicious meal to share as a family, and I’ll sit and enjoy my Easter tabletop for hours. Easter Dinner Done Right

As much as I loved the turkey and the sides from HoneyBaked Ham, the truly surprising thing is that I ended up loving the ham most of all. After 30 years of ham hatred, this girl finally loves ham. Shocking, right?

It’s not all that surprising though when you know that when it comes to Easter ham, HoneyBaked has become the gold standard to which other hams are compared. Just like the mismatched plates and accessories are our family’s tradition, the Easter ham is the HoneyBaked Ham family tradition. Honeeybaked HamFor 50 years they have been serving only the finest quality bone-in ham, cured in a secret marinade, and then smoked for hours over hardwood chips. Served spiral-sliced and then smothered with a sweet and delicious crackling glaze, the ham is a perfect amount of sweetness.  Honeybaked Ham dished upI'm not kidding, I seriously love HoneyBaked ham. Although we didn't end up with many leftovers from our meal, I did make sure to save some ham to try on a deli sandwich or two and no matter how I have served it, each time I enjoyed it immensely. I'm already planning our next ham pick up, and that time I won't make the mistake of not ordering enough for leftovers.

Following a tip from the woman who took my order over the phone, I also saved a bit of the Orange Walnut Cranberries and stirred them into my oatmeal the next day. After hearing her describe how decadent it was, I couldn't not try it. And, after eating it for two days straight, I have to agree that it is as good as she said it would be. Oatmeal with cranberries
Now, if only she would have told me I would want a whole ham…

  1. I love ham and we had tried their ham around Christmas time. I wanted ham again for Easter, but hubby said he wanted to try the turkey. I have not eaten turkey since the bird flu breakout. Seriously (yes, I’m weird that way). We tried their turkey and I have to admit – it was heavenly! I even commented how delicious it would be the next day on sandwiches! It was so good! Did you have a favorite side dish? Mine so far are the mac and cheese and the apples! Yum! Okay… now I’m ready to go back to our HoneyBaked Ham store and get some grub!
