An indoor playground with Gorilla Gym

“Go outside and play” was the theme of my childhood, when we would disappear in the morning and not come back until late afternoon. Looking back now, I think this is how my mom didn’t lose all her marbles raising 5 children.

I will admit that I love letting the kids loose on our back porch when they just need a change of scenery and a little exercise in the early afternoon, but unfortunately Seattle weather rarely cooperates this time of year and it’s usually rainy and wet. I wish I had a large covered area I could send them to when they need to get their energy out, but unfortunately this is what most afternoons look like.

Rain on windows
I know many local moms feel the same way once the rainy season{s} hit hard, as do all the moms out there that don’t have yards to send the kids to. But, whether you’re lamenting the fact that the cold has descended, have a small urban lot, or no yard at all, I have your solution:The Gorilla Gym.

The Gorilla Gym is a way to make any doorway an active play set, so the kids can get out energy rain or shine. My kids adore swings and I’ve always been really sad that a big swing set doesn’t make sense in our sloped yard that’s already maxed out with a garden, a huge trampoline, a deck, a BBQ area, and various other kids toys, so naturally I chose the Indoor Swing Package from Gorilla Gym.

Swinging in Doorway
With no drilling, no holes, and no permanent structure to worry about, the Gorilla Gym can be taken down when not in use – which, for us, is very, very rare. It’s not going to be any surprise that the kids are fully addicted to the Gorilla Gym swing and if they had their choice, it would only be empty when we’re gone or sleeping.

Swinging in Hallway
In fact, my daughter loves the swing so much that she plans her day around swinging time. She has a time slot from 2-3pm every day that she spends swinging for the entire hour, she swings a bit before bed, and she wakes up early and gets herself dressed simply so she can swing before school. She helps her brother with tasks, cleans her room quickly and helps me around the house just to earn the privilege of swinging for a few minutes.

It’s basically the best motivator for good behavior that I can imagine.

When they have earned swing time, we pull the swing down from where it rests up on the Gorilla Gym frame and they can swing to their heart’s content. It’s a great workout when they are actively swinging, a fun part of imaginative play, and even a place to sit and read or play with toys. Then, when we need our doorway back or when the kids shouldn’t be swinging, we can either flip the swing back up out of reach or we can remove the Gorilla Gym altogether in just a matter of seconds and you’d never know that there had once been a swing set in the doorway.

But, the Gorilla Gym is so much more than just an indoor swing – the Gorilla Gym can support up to 300lbs, which means us adults can use it, too. They even have a whole bunch of attachments that can take your Gorilla Gym and transform it into a total body fitness tool. From yoga to boxing and low-impact, anti-gravity workouts, you can pretty much do anything on the Gorilla Gym.

Here's just some of what you can do with the Gorilla Gym with the optional accessories:

Fitness – Exercise in the air with no joint impact
Boxing – Punch & kick a bag in your doorway
Yoga – Air yoga! A next level yoga experience
Playground – Swing and play indoors

Since the kids love the Gorilla Gym so much that we can’t imagine our house without it, hubby and I have decided that investing in the Air-Lift and DVD set for each other for Christmas would be a good idea. It will help us stay active even when we can’t go outdoors and will give us a good jump on our New Year’s resolutions. And, if we stick to it and really end up loving the Gorilla Gym for our daily workouts, we’re going to go for the full setup and get ourselves the boxing set, too.

And, then of course I will want all of these:

  1. Oooh!! I would be the most popular mom ever! (Thankfully they only have me so they don’t really know what they are missing.) Cool idea!

  2. I think this is great. Many homes nowadays don’t have a space necessary for the kids to play. I’m pretty sure moms would love this Indoor Swing Package from the Gorilla Gym. It is safe and very much affordable. Kids don’t need to go outside their homes, rush to parks and play. Of course many moms will not worry for the safety of their children. This is impressive.

  4. You do realize people could get hurt from the child kicking them or the child falling off and landing on something dangerous hurting or possibly killing them i think it might be a little to dangerous.

  5. Most dangerous toy to ever enter our home. Not sure why anyone thought this was a good idea. Children must be supervised 100% of time while using. Can’t be used unless you have considerably more than 90° of I open door space.

  6. Indoor playground is fun and entertaining no matter how young or old you are. From play equipment for toddlers to play equipment for school age children, there is something for everyone. Indoor playground is not only a way to provide entertainment, but it also helps both physical and mental health. Whether it be the weather or another reason that is keeping a child indoors, it can take a toll on a person. It is proven that staying active helps both the mind and body. Staying active while indoors at times can be challenging, but not when you have indoor equipment.

  7. did it fall? or are you just saying to make sure to supervise your child while using it? I am really worried about it falling on my child but at the same time has gotten so many great reviews and kids are having a blast!
