The Help Arrives on DVD and Blu-ray {$5 off Coupon}

Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide – Day 17

A few months ago I got the chance to attend a prescreening of the movie The Help that is based off the New York Times best-selling book with the same name by Kathryn Stockett.  Even though it’s been months since I saw the movie, I’ve thought about it quite a bit and have been impatiently waiting for the movie to be released so I could see it again.  Let me tell you, it’s just as good {if not more so} the second time around.

The HelpIn case you didn’t get a chance to read the book or see the movie in theatres, here is a little bit of backstory of the plot.  The movie takes place in the deep South in the 1960s and tells the story of Eugenia {AKA Skeeter} who is returning home to Jackson, Mississippi after college with dreams of eventually moving to New York to pursue a writing career.

While home, she gets a job at a local paper writing the housekeeping column under a pen name.  Unfortunately, she has no idea how to tend to the house and enlists the help of Aibileen Clark, her friend’s hired “help” to write her articles with her.  It’s in these meetings that she realizes that the untold story of “the help” is one that she needs to tell.  Even though it goes against the racially-charged society norm and puts her on the outs with friends and neighbors, she gathers an unlikely group of women to tell their stories and share their deepest, darkest secrets.

Not only does The Help have an interesting plot, it also has an all-star cast that includes Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Sissy Spacek as leading women and supporting cast.  It’s the performances of this amazing group of women that will have you laughing, crying, and ultimately feeling grateful we live in an age of tolerance and acceptance.  Since the holidays are a time to reflect on life and focus on the things that really 03matter, this is the perfect holiday movie.  It is incredibly moving and is filled with heartfelt moments, humor, and, above all, hope.

DreamWorks Pictures’ The Help comes to DVD, Blu-ray, and Blue-ray Combo Pack today, December 6th.  With added bonuses, extra features, deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes footage, The Help would be the perfect gift for the holidays.  Plus, there's even a $5 off coupon you can print off and use in-store for purchasing!
